On November 4, 2008, Barack Hussein Obama II defeated John McCain to become the 44th President of the United States. It was a historic win as Obama is the first African American to be elected in the highest office of the powerful nation. In his victory speech, Obama proclaimed: "change has come to America."
He will be his oath of office on January 20, 2009.
